BREAKING HEARTS AND WINDOWS
01 February 2002 / Thrill City / 4 TRK ENHANCED CD
:: Pinhole ::
Hailing from Liverpool, they've stolen some of the traditional homespun two part harmonies, bastardised them and put them to a punk rock (think Green Day, 3CR) soundtrack

THIS IS VICTORY
01 February 2002 / Action / 5 TRK CD
:: Amberman ::
Pretty regular and the vocals are the type that straddle the world of sing and chant at the same time - not too offensively though - a simple jangly journey over handful of chords

PEELING THE FINCH
01 February 2002 / Promo / 4 TRK CD
:: Being 747 ::
From Leeds : aside from having a brilliant name they have a more relaxed approach to delivering their quirky, off the wall darkly tinged pop

UNTITLED
01 February 2002 / Demo / 2 TRK CD
:: Maria Jordan ::
Smashing voice - more tunes please !

THE SLEEPY PEA DEMOS
01 February 2002 / Demo / 4 TRK CD
:: Wintergreen ::
Well it's a very laid back acoustic affair with a full band back up. The drums seem a little out of step. The harmonious layers of vocals sound like a cross between the Beatles and an indie folk outfit.

WELCOME
01 February 2002 / Action / 3 TRK CD
:: Reception ::
Quite an eclectic collection of songs. Best think of guitar driven, american infused 60's electronica ? Very few weak moments on what is a promising collection of songs

AT SEA
01 February 2002 / Demo / 3 TRK CD
:: Jobe ::
Very well executed stuff that sort of sounds like a dark indie chillout number - Quite a moving and impressive peace.

MAN CAR PLANE
01 February 2002 / Promo / 12 TRK CD
:: The Frightened Prisoners Of The Kraken ::
"We apologise for the Quality of This Product" it says on the cover - that's ok then....

APE
01 February 2002 / Demo / 4 TRK CD
:: This Product ::
Siouxsie meets Soundgarden,choppy and gothicly off kilter - A good debut and worthy first stab

PAVEMENT
01 February 2002 / Demo / 4 TRK CD
:: Pamela Nude ::
Pamela Nude have produced a suitable offensive that sees them edging into the epic, alt.rock scene with plenty of credibility and atmospheric qualifications. Highly recommended

CHASING PARROTTS
01 February 2002 / Demo / 4 TRK CD
:: Serotonin (Manchester) ::
A dark, open spaced atmosphere to this as the vocals fuse Buckley and Yorke.

SOULFIRE
01 February 2002 / Promo / 11 TRK CD
:: Tom Hingley / Tom Hingley & The Lovers ::
A mix of upfront guitar numbers, but with some eager and well executed use of programming. A worthwhile addition to any Hingley fans (Inspiral completists) collection

LETS GO OUTSIDE
01 February 2002 / Promo / 2 TRK CD
:: The Flow ::
Full of rich distorted bass and middle end, they gear up the proceedings with a couple of rambunctious chopped chords. Pete Cowaps' voice swings in and the song throws itself against the wall and shakes itself into life.

PATH
01 February 2002 / Promo / 4 TRK CD
:: Gabrielle's Wish ::
Dark, melodic and transporting sounds from another era into the 21st Century - this is maybe one of Gabrielles finer moments.

EYEBALL MAN E.P.
01 February 2002 / Demo / 4 TRK CD
:: Slim & The Blue Avenger ::
A vocal led mix of hard edged rock, which somehow manages to balance a degree of gutsy indie familiarity. One of the best things is the difficulty you'll face in trying to categorise or describe them.

SEEING GHOSTS
01 February 2002 / Demo / 3 TRK CD
:: Kauai ::
From the operatic to the cinematic, Kauai have covered most passions, most feelings and certainly within their scope, a variety of different of musical approaches.

CAN'T STAND THE MUSIC
01 February 2002 / Demo / 2 TRK CD
:: Mooncalf ::
Bohemian urban ballads, tricky acoustic chord changes - An endearing quality with the singers voice standing out from the normal "bloke trying to sing" - just the right level of imperfection to make it all interesting.

PLEASURE SEEKERS
01 February 2002 / Promo / 2 TRK 7
:: Flawed ::
An interesting band, who presents a darker, alternative style of pop : with dense and effective arrangements, are used to clever effect. A great debut.

EXOTICS
01 February 2002 / Super Volcano / 5 TRK MINI CD
:: B-fab.U.K. ::
Another excellent body of work, that sets out to challenge the way in which music is produced, presented and even listened to. Whilst it may not be everyone's taste, it has been produced as a challenge to both artist and listener. And quite rightly so.

NEW PUPPET MOTION
01 February 2002 / Urbanite / 3 TRK CD
:: Ithaca ::
A stunning piece of work. There's the trademark syncopated beats and this song is as much about sound, as it is about the melodic intentions of the singing.

MESSAGE OF LOVE
01 February 2002 / Promo / 3 TRK CD
:: TVH-3 ::
Hedonistically primal to a fault, Message Of Love unapologetically scrounges the old wounds of Stooge territory, but seeks to infest this with fresh culture.

STILL
01 February 2002 / Minus-Money / 2 TRK PROMO
:: Palo Alto ::
This presents a side to Palo Alto that demonstrates that this is no one trick pony. As a sampler, we can only offer you a taste of the band, but there's more stuff on this band due on this site. Well worth watching out for.

SUBCULTURE - c/w 19 TRK CD
01 February 2002 / Promo / MAGAZINE / FANZINE
:: SUBCULTURE ::
A local fanzine crammed with pages and a definite finger on the pulse of the local music scene, selling for less than the price of a pint (2.50 today and round about 50p in 1979) and having on the front, a free CD !

CIRCUIT MAGAZINE - c/w 11 TRK CD SAMPLER
01 February 2002 / Promo / MAGAZINE / FANZINE
:: CIRCUIT MAGAZINE ::
Despite a compact size, this is very much a high quality, highly visual coffee table item, full of fashionable rock exclusives and highlights on up and rising unknowns.

PHILOKALIA
01 February 2002 / Promo / 6 TRK CD
:: Anna Kashfi ::
Think the purity of Ithaca and the presence of a modern folk sensibility with a reflective consideration of Nu-Americana. Intensely emotive and melodic.

LUNG
01 February 2002 / Demo / 5 TRK CD
:: Kickswitch ::
Not as original in one sense, but that's the genre for you - but in the case of Kickswitch, they're tight as a nut and have a few good moves, although it provides a welcome ear thrashing.

PRETTY WHEN YOU'RE DROWNING
01 February 2002 / Promo / 7 TRK CD
:: The Gentle Scars ::
A real demonstration on how pop can incite violence and help release that fucked up energy you get around 5pm every day. Outstanding and sheer class...
